Amistad
Summary
Any place near the banks of the East Coast is where you can locate this historic beauty. The Amistad is a topsail schooner that serves as an ambassador and, just as its Spanish name states, it is the ambassador of friendship. This Connecticut ambassador was re-created in the wake of the Amistad Incident of 1839 and teaches the incident’s unforgettable lessons of freedom, justice, perseverance, cooperation, and leadership. The Amistad serves as a non-profit educational method to bridge gaps between races and cultures by illustrating their common experiences. This living classroom honors the lives of those who were lost during the brutal transatlantic slave trade.
